project objective

Partnering with the Mayo Clinic Center for Innovation and Doblin Innovation Consultants, the second annual Rotman Design Challenge presented a case study in the area of health and wellness. Teams were given three-weeks to address the issue of prediction and prevention in health care by designing innovative product or service concepts for a self-defined target audience.
In current healthcare models, the main emphasis is on the patient, but most patients use the help of loved ones to assist them on their path to wellness. The debilitating effects of putting the needs of others before their own are often ignored.
Caregiver stress is the emotional and physical strain of caregiving. Individuals experiencing caregiver stress are often the most vulnerable to a decline in their own health.

research

During this phase, our team conducted literary research and interviews to understand the needs and desires of caregivers.
After conducting primary and secondary research, the team translated our findings into key insights and opportunity areas that translated into solutions to increase the wellness of caregivers.

Based on our interviews with caregivers, we created personae – composites of our insights. Each persona card included a direct quote that perfectly encapsulated the essence of our consumers. These personae allowed us to quickly develop user-centered concepts.

ideation

In this phase our team used our research and opportunity gaps to begin ideating initial product concepts using Doblin innovation models.
From 10 hour drives to late nights on campus or in the hotel, we took advantage of every opportunity to use our new-found new tools and visualize concepts.
Over the course of our ideation process, we moved from a multi-disciplinary team to an interdisciplinary team.
